We welcome artists of all mediums to share their craft with the community while activating library spaces for personal projects. Selected artists will be featured at the library, host public programs for all ages, have scheduled time for personal projects in library studios, performance spaces, quiet focus rooms and/or the Center for Innovation while receiving a stipend. Through this program, the library welcomes artists to share their craft with the community while activating these spaces for personal projects.

Sabine Schmidt

Photographer and writer Sabine Schmidt was born and raised in Germany and lives in the Ozarks. Her work has appeared in exhibitions and publications including National Geographic and Rolling Stone.

Laura Ramirez

Laura Ramirez is a local Fayetteville artist and designer, originally from the Dominican Republic. Her studio Pattern Etch allows her to create and explore the world around her.

Vinita Hampton Wright recently retired after three decades as a book editor. She currently writes, freelances as an editor, and teaches courses for the University of Chicago's Professional Development Editing Certificate program.

About the Visiting Artists Program

Fayetteville Public Library welcomes artists of all mediums including dance, visual, writing, music, film, performance, maker and culinary arts are encouraged to apply.

Selected artists will be featured at the library, host public programs for all ages, have scheduled time for personal projects in library studios, performance spaces, quiet focus rooms and/or the Center for Innovation while receiving a stipend. Through this program, the library welcomes artists to share their craft with the community while activating these spaces for personal projects.  

Fayetteville Public Library has an established precedent of connecting the community to the arts by presenting nearly 2,000 programs a year for all ages and developing collections that fulfill the community’s intellectual and recreational interests. Additionally, the library includes a 700-seat auditorium, teaching kitchen, art & movement room and Center for Innovation equip with a fabrication lab, audio recording studio, video recording studio, photography studio, and editing bays.

+ Artists of all mediums are encouraged to apply including dance, visual, writing, music, film, performance, maker and culinary arts.
+ Selected artists will lead four public events - at least one per month (Formal or informal art teaching experience is recommended but not required)
+ Events offered will include workshops and/or programs for youth, teens, and adults and if appropriate to the artist's focus, a public presentation/exhibition. Visual art exhibitions must be approved by the library's art committee.
+ $1,500 stipend
+ Access to space appropriate to artist’s focus.*

* Up to 32 hours a month of access for personal projects. Schedules and access to space are limited to library hours and availability. Prior to each program cycle, an agreed-upon schedule of dates and times for studio access will be established. No admission fee may be charged. The intent of this access is for creation opportunities and studio time. Mass production of items for resale or events that charge admission fees will not be approved for personal project reservations.
Three artists will be selected each year - one artist per each four-month period: 
    + January – April 
    + May – August 
    + September – December
